As a successful novelist, I know how to craft a story. Despite that, and reading dozens of books on screenwriting and even taking numerous classes, the nuances and execution of writing a successful screenplay eluded me. And then I found Zena Dell Lowe's FORMATTING AS AN ART FORM, and everything began to click. Bar none, this class is THE best course I've ever seen or taken on how to write a screenplay.
Zena goes beyond the theory into the specifics. She doesn't just tell what to do, she explains why and then shows how. Her teaching is focused and clear and she even offers office hours to address any specific questions. Regardless of where you are on the screenwriting journey, from seasoned storyteller to just getting started, this is the course that every aspiring screenwriter must have if they want to write a screenplay that sells.

I’ve written best-sellers, owned a successful publishing services company, and worked in the film industry for a few decades; I’ve never experienced a more practical and helpful writing program than FORMATTING AS AN ARTFORM. Zena’s ability to marry the technical with artform motivates the pursuit for excellent writing. I am now writing at my best as I use the technicalities to enhance the story.

Zena Dell Lowe’s FORMATTING AS AN ARTFORM is the best online course I’ve ever taken.
I’ve written scripts before, but this course has completely changed the way I think and approach scriptwriting. Zena’s incredible insights have deepened my understanding of not only how formatting is an artform, but how good stories and scripts are multi-faceted and built with intention. She’s a master teacher with tons of experience and knowledge. I’m only part the way through the course, and already I feel like I’ve gained valuable tools to help me become a better writer. I’m so thankful to be a part of it. I can’t wait to take some of her other courses!

Zena, I want to thank you personally for the amazing input you provided during this class. I think it's probably some of the best content I've heard in relation to writing fiction in a long while. That and your enthusiasm for your topic is something that makes it even more fun. God has given you a gift of communication--it was a privilege being able to receive that from you.

I've been looking for advanced writing instruction, and you definitely provided it. I'm glad I didn't miss a minute of your energy and enthusiasm. Everything you taught was beneficial. Truly, your class was immensely helpful.
WOW! I was blown away by your classes. I couldn't wait to get to the next, and then the next. Such great info and insight... Thank you SOOOOO much!
There are very few people in this world who can advise someone on their story while preserving their central idea and extracting the most of it. Zena is most definitely one of those people. She taught me in a month what most people take years to try and teach someone about storytelling and script writing.
The best thing I did in February was to take your class. I am still blown away by all that I learned from you. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart.
Your lectures have been beyond helpful to me. I used your 'Beat Sheet' to set up and review the chapters in the novel I’m finishing (under contract). That sheet is exactly what I needed and I will definitely be using it for all future novels.
Your class was invaluable to me.
Zena is brilliant in every sense of the word, and it shows in everything she does.

If the only class I had attended at the FCWC was yours, it would have been worth it! Thank you for so passionately and effectively teaching what you clearly know so well.
Thank you for an incredible class! I’ve been to many writers conferences over the years, and I’m usually disappointed in the content—it’s never anything 'new' or different that I didn’t already know. This past weekend, I really wanted to focus on enhancing my fiction writing skills and soaking up knowledge—really learn what I don’t know about the craft. You did all of that for me and more! Thanks for giving me knowledge and igniting my passion for fiction!
When I attended the Blue Ridge Christian Writers Conference and Zena was presenting, I went to her first class. It was so inspirational and informative that I went to all of her classes, sometimes sitting on the floor. None of her assigned rooms were large enough. I would do it all over again, too - she is brilliant yet humble, entertaining yet educational. She is a treasure.

If you want to laugh, be moved, and motivated, Zena is the answer. She's fuel for your heart and soul. If you don't feel a mental and emotional reboot after hearing her speak, you'd better check your pulse. It may be that you're on the wrong side of the dirt!

THANK YOU, Zena.
Even though I'm published and know all the basics, when I left your class I fell deliriously in love with writing all over again.

Zena doesn't just know the ins and outs of screenwriting; she's a master of the craft. Her advice as a story consultant or writing coach is invaluable to her clients. Again and again, she has impressed me with how incredibly focused, hard-working, and dedicated she is to making every project the best it can be. If you have the opportunity to work with her, don't let it pass you by!

Your class, more than anything else I heard, is going to provoke major alterations to my manuscript!
You mastered the art of combining entertainment with teaching. Thank you.
I've struggled for years to understand the concept of what I call 'layering'. If all I had heard was the portion of your class on
setup/payoffs, I would be a hundred times richer for the experience. Your class had me
jotting down notes that I know will bring my next novel to a new level.
Thank you for being such an inspiring teacher. I'm an author who works as an acquisition editor, and your classes enriched me in both fields.
Zena knows story structure and character arcs the way some chefs know spices.
I recently had the pleasure of meeting with her to discuss a story concept that’s been dogging me for months. The series is stuck in my head and my heart, but never reaches my keyboard. I couldn’t figure out why. She listened to my idea, my characters, and the theme I was envisioning. Diagnosis? My concept is an ensemble piece; I needed to re-orient the flow to better manage multiple characters. She challenged my opening scene and its implications for the rest of the novel.
The real kicker? Less than 30 minutes. Total. I’ve agonized over one sentence in a scene longer than that. If I can get clarity like that in such a brief consultation, imagine what would happen if you hired her on an ongoing basis.
I’d recommend Zena for anyone with a story to tell—especially the story that won’t cooperate. Save yourself a lot of time and effort. Work with her. Get your breakthrough before you start, then keep the keyboard flowing with regular critiques, coaching and consultations.

Zena’s patience is truly encouraging. She has a gift to be able to make you dig deep within your story, see the bigger/smaller picture, explain things until you understand, and leave feeling motivated to continue forward. I am really fortunate to have had her help with my portfolio.

Your classes were great, but your generosity in sharing all of this information is the best I have ever seen from a teacher. It's truly amazing. Thank you for all you have done.

By accident, I took a writing workshop from Zena Dell Lowe several years ago. The room was packed, and I sat on the floor. I'm not kidding when I say it is probably the best writing workshop I've ever been to, and I've taken plenty. Zena was so dynamic, and her class was so practical and compelling that I remember ithe material clearly, and use the lessons I learned there. She was inspiring, creative, and practical in her material and presentation. If you can work with her, you should.

Zena is a thorough and insightful instructor. I am very glad I chose to take her class. With vibrant personality, on-point examples, and a wisdom of the business of storytelling, she shared a plethora of practical advice for enhancing our writing. I'm a good notetaker, able to write quickly and summarize while doing so, and even I left with multiple pages of useful notes from a single session! I highly recommend Zena.

Although it has been several years, much of what I learned in Zena’s class has remained with me and changed the way I write. I have often recommended her classes to many friends in the writing community because there are few instructors with her experience, humor, and skill in storytelling.

It's a marvelous thing to be so inspired and excited about what you're learning that you're torn between wanting to stay forever and wanting to dash home and get to work on new projects. Zena's talent—and her ability to communicate—makes her a force to be reckoned with. Knowing she is out there, contending for good, beautiful, truthful art in our ugly world, gives me hope for the future.

During my first fifteen weeks of sending scripts remotely, the notes she gave were so extensive and conversational it felt like she was in the room with me. I watched her develop this kind of unique rapport with every student in the class, in a way I have not seen anywhere else from an online instructor.
More important: the comments Zena leaves never make me feel discouraged or attacked. Her critique is sharp and specific, but it is immediately obvious she believes in the writer's talent and wants their stories to grow.
As a young artist, I feel a real sense of safety when sending developing ideas to Zena. I know she will always be honest and suggest exciting new possibilities.

I was fortunate enough to have my first introduction to professional screenwriting through Zena. Her instruction of structure and craft was miles beyond anything I’d gotten out of other creative courses. I credit my love of screenwriting to Zena’s teaching, and still rely on that knowledge base today.

I was amazed at how accurately she assessed the structural problems and story arc issues, while clearly understanding where I wanted to take my story. I was so impressed by her astute observations and approach, her constructive examples, that I would absolutely seek her out for further script analyses.
